Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe

Over the last few days there has been a lot of discussion and backlash around this documentary and its screening at the Tribeca Film Festival this April. It amazes me how people that question authority or believe differently than the majority are judged and considered “Crackpots” Why are people afraid to hear all sides? Why are people fighting so hard to discredit Andrew Wakefield?  Deb and I were talking this morning and she mentioned that she had met Andrew Wakefield…Deb your knowledge never ceases to amaze me! Check out Deb’s excerpt below about Andrew Wakefield.

Statement from Robert De Niro, co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, regarding VAXXED at the Festival:

“Grace and I have a child with autism and we believe it is critical that all of the issues surrounding the causes of autism be openly discussed and examined. In the 15 years since the Tribeca Film Festival was founded, I have never asked for a film to be screened or gotten involved in the programming. However this is very personal to me and my family and I want there to be a discussion, which is why we will be screening VAXXED. I am not personally endorsing the film, nor am I anti-vaccination; I am only providing the opportunity for a conversation around the issue.”

You can Watch the Vaxxed Trailer Here. The screening is in NYC Sunday April 24th at 2pm and tickets go on sale Tuesday, March 29th. I hope to take the train in for the day leaving from Providence if anyone is interested in joining me.

Do your research, ask the hard questions, and trust your “gut feelings”

Who is Andrew Wakefield?

Dr. Andrew Wakefield is a pediatric gastroenterologist. He published, with others, a 1998 paper in the British Medical Journal, The Lancet, about his observation of severe gastrointestinal problems in children with autism and the possible Gut-Brain Connection to the MMR vaccine.

My last opportunity to meet Dr. Wakefield in person was at an Autism One Conference in Chicago a few years ago. He greets you warmly, like old friend. He has a slightly rumpled, college professor appearance with a distinct British accent. When he gave his speech, his voice was strong and clear. Myself, as well as others in attendance were not hearing his words as new information. We needed no convincing. He described our life with our vaccine injured kids. Andy Wakefield could have run away from the constant scrutiny and controversy. Instead he has chosen to stay and fight with us. As Dr. Wakefield said in the prologue of his book, Callous Disregard published in 2010: “If autism does not affect your family now, it will.”

It is my hope that this good man finally receives the respect he so richly deserves.
