“Follow the Money Trail”

The RI General Assembly is off to a tumultuous start this year and Rhode Islanders are paying very close attention. This election year I suspect we will see several new candidates promising change. I have always felt if we take the time to “Follow the Money Trail” we will see a candidates true agenda. CNN’s article “Big Pharma’s Big Donations to 2016 Presidential Candidates”  is an eye opener! In 2015 Big Pharma had donated $951,018 to presidential candidates and that doesn’t include the money they had spent lobbying. Pfizer alone spent over $10 million in lobbyist efforts last year and Merck $7.5 million! It makes me wonder what our money trail might look like here in RI…Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp. and Pfizer Inc. will spend thousands in their lobbyist efforts right here in RI this year.

I took some time and followed the money trail for the  Senate Bill S0381 introduced in 2015. There were 3 lobbyists working on behalf of Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp, The Rhode Island Medical Society, and GlaxoSmithKline to introduce S0381. Does everyone remember this bill? This was the bill introduced by Senators Miller and Goldin to remove the religious exemption form. The RI Lobby Tracker site is a great resource for anyone interested in following the money trail. If you are interested researching campaign contributions in RI visit the Campaign Finance Electronic Reporting & Tracking System (ERTS)

This November before you vote for your candidate, do your research, follow the money trail,  ask the difficult questions and understand what your candidates true agenda is! Remember, they work for you!

Quick Reminder:

Open Meeting – Legislative Hearing Preparation Monday February 22, 2016

The bills have been introduced! Join us as we prepare testimony for the proposed legislation hearing happening towards the end of the month. (We will update you when we have a hearing date)

This hearing is our opportunity to speak up, have our voices heard, and make it known these mandates are not acceptable. Over the past several months there have been numerous heartfelt personal stories and multiple bills proposed not only in RI but around our country that are slowly taking our right to chose away. We have accomplished a lot in a short time but we need YOU and our legislators need to see and hear your stories.

If you are interested in providing testimony, or have a story you would like us to share please plan to attend this important meeting.

– Have you been turned away from your doctor because of your vaccine choices?
– Has your child been excluded from school due to vaccine choices?
– Has your child sustained a vaccine injury?
– Has your child been vaccinated without your knowing? If so which vaccines did they receive?

Please message us for meeting location.

Two RI Grandmothers HPV Vaccine Story ~ Written by Linda McLaughlin

Scene ~ Lippitt Elementary School playground, Two Grandparents watching their grandchildren play…

Grandparent 1 ~ Did you hear that the kids need the HPV vaccine to enter the 7th grade?

Grandparent 2 ~ Wait, my daughter told me something about a religious exemption and all you have to do was check off the box and they don’t have to get the vaccine to go to school.

The conversation continues, they both agreed this was valuable information to have and would protect their two granddaughters but there were still many people that didn’t have this information. The grandmothers decided information needed to be given out and the mandate  needed to be reversed. They both felt this vaccine was not something that should have an effect on children going to school. It was a vaccine for a sexually transmitted disease not an airborne illness. The first meeting was held. It was a small group less that 20 people attended, but word began to spread and by the second meeting the RI Department of Health attended an the group swelled from less than 20 people to well over 60. Great questions were asked of the Department of Health and a lot of great information was shared by people that had been looking for a voice. The following week a Facebook Group was created. Within a month 2500 people had joined the group and over 2000 had signed the petition. We now had a voice and there were a lot of people speaking. It was time to take the next step spreading awareness about the mandate and informed consent. Help us remove this mandate, to provide informed consent and to get the information out to the current 6th grade parents.

From the two grandmothers started it all,
Linda and Joan

Did you know  78% of our legislators REFUSE to go on record about the HPV vaccine mandate.

Do you want to win this fight? Do you want the HPV vaccine mandate removed? NOW is the time, you MUST contact your legislators immediately.
You deserve a response from your elected official! Hold them accountable.

Explain that you want them to pass legislation to accomplish the following:

1. Restrict the authority of the RI Department of Health (DOH) to set minimum immunization standards for diseases that
are non-transmissible in a school environment.
2. Remove the authority of the DOH to mandate HPV vaccination as a condition of school inclusion.
3. Require the DOH director to hold three public hearings when changes to the minimum standards for immunizations
are planned.
4. Reinstate the philosophical exemption while also preserving the religious exemption.

Our parent packet has a lot of information and a sample letter you can email to your legislator. Print and share:https://vaccinechoiceri.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/parent-packet.pdf

If you missed the show, we had an opportunity to speak with Dan Yorke on his show State of Mind this week! We had a great discussion and appreciate the opportunity to spread the word. Thanks Dan and Lexi for inviting us!

Vaccination and the Sunday Flyer ~ Written by Doc Black

It always amazes me as I talk to and observe people how much time they actually spend concentrating and focusing on “things”. I am sure that most of you can tell me the difference between the newest iPhone, what ever version it is, and a Samsung galaxy or which series of the house wives’ has the most dysfunctional sister-in-law. How many of us can name one ingredient and the effects it may have on the human physiology in just one of the vaccines we routinely and often blindly inject into our children? I bet I can even get a few Tom Brady stats from some of you, but when was the last time you looked at the statistics provided to you by the vaccine manufacturers or actually had an real “discussion” with your family’s doctor about these serious issues?

Unfortunately most of us never consider these things until we run into a problem…BUT…Unlike having the ability to change cell phone carriers or switching to a new series to binge watch; many of our “choices” effect the health of our children and maybe even our children’s children…these choices will definitely outlast this version of iPhone or this season of reality TV. Put down the flyer and study what actually makes a difference.

Until next time keep thinking and seeking YOUR truths….

~ Doc Black

This week we started receiving responses from legislators and some of you have also been meeting with them. Please continue to help us by calling, emailing, and meeting with your senator and representative and tell them that we propose legislation to accomplish the following:

1. Restrict the authority of the DOH to set minimum immunization standards for diseases which are non-transmissible in a school environment.
2. Remove the authority of the DOH to mandate HPV vaccination as a condition of school inclusion.
3. Require the DOH director to hold three public hearings when changes to the minimum standards for immunizations are planned.
4. Reinstate the philosophical exemption while also preserving the religious exemption to vaccinations.

Our group membership has swelled to over 2500 concerned citizens and, to date, more than 2900 supporters have signed an online petition to eliminate mandatory HPV vaccinations in R.I. We could not have accomplished this much without your support!

Remember to share the ‘HPV Parent Information Packet’ with parents you may know. Our resources page has lots of valuable information that all of you should read and share. Lastly don’t forget to sign the petition to remove the HPV mandate.

A quick reminder: The RI Alliance for Vaccine Choice is not seeking monetary donations at this time. If you are asked to donate money to aid in the removal of the HPV vaccine mandate, please be informed that it is not endorsed nor recommended by us. If you are contacted by someone on behalf of our organization, please inform us immediately.

Thank you again for your support!

Important Update From The Board

It has been brought to our attention that some members of our group have been asked to donate money. The RI Alliance for Vaccine Choice is not seeking monetary donations at this time. The RI Alliance for Vaccine Choice (RIAVC) mission is to protect and preserve our right to medical freedom and to prevent any action that would impose any additional infringement on human rights. We started out as a small group focused on the HPV vaccine mandate and have evolved into an alliance for ALL, one that supports the right to choice. We are rational thinkers with diverse healthcare beliefs that seek the truth, and will continue to support and provide valuable resources to families in RI and beyond.

Our top priority is the removal of the HPV vaccine mandate and we are working closely with the Alliance to Remove HPV Vaccine Mandate. Our mission is clear; we wish to support, educate, and work towards securing the freedom of choice for our families.  We ask that you continue to share our message via our social media outlets, get involved, and contact your local legislators. We have provided resources to help you become an informed parent with regards to the risks and rights to these decisions so you may continue to make the best choices possible for you and YOUR family.

Sincerely,
Shawna & The Board of Directors

Your Weekly Dose of Information – September 4, 2015

What an exciting week! After experiencing some growing pains we are back on track. The RI Coalition for Vaccine Choice and Rhode Islanders Against Mandated HPV Vaccinations are excited to announce our “Money Bomb” partnership with The Gaspee Project These funds will be dedicated to support the infrastructure, communications, and electoral efforts to eliminate this extreme mandate.

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to the RI Center for Freedom & Prosperity for their continued support!

Please continue to share our mission, make your pledge now, contact your legislators, and don’t forget to sign & share the petition. People are watching and listening.

As we grow and evolve we have realized that people have joined our groups for several different reasons. For some, the focus has always been about the HPV Vaccine, the research, its efficacy, and the mandate. For others there is concern for all mandated vaccines, and lastly there is a group that is charged with the fight to protect our medical freedom both on a local and federal level. If you are a reader strictly interested in the HPV Vaccine we will continue to discuss HPV related issues on our Facebook pages. In addition we will be sending out a separate blog “Your HPV Weekly Dose of Information”

The original intent of this blog was to not only support the Rhode Islanders Against Mandated HPV Vaccinations movement but to also share news on all Adult/Children vaccines, their mandates, the legislation that is set forth on a local and Federal level, and lastly information about the ongoing fight to protect medical freedom. If you no longer wish to receive this blog and would rather receive the “Your HPV Weekly Dose of Information” please email me at I will remove your email from this blog and add it to the HPV one. We are all still working together as a team, we just realize that people are interested in different information and want to offer you a CHOICE.

We hope you enjoy the long weekend with family and friends!

Your Weekly Dose of Information brought to you by the RI Coalition for Vaccine Choice

It seems like our rally and press conference this past Monday was weeks ago! As I reflect on the evening I am overwhelmed by the progress we have made as a group. We have called on the Governor to reverse the July 2014 mandate by executive order. The Governor and the RI Department of Health have made statements to the press stating they will not remove the mandate. This could easily be viewed as defeat but it is quite the opposite! I see this as the beginning of change. In this short time we have come together as group that is focused, educated, and passionate about their convictions. Our voices have been heard and we will continue the fight to protect our right to choose.

I have included the entire recording of the RI Department of Health community meeting that immediately followed the press conference.

News:

Giovanni Cicione from the Stephen Hopkins Center for Civil Rights has reach out to the group and is looking for plaintiffs as he and his team prepare to file a lawsuit against the State of RI. They are interested in speaking with families that have either been told their child can’t attend school next week because they do not have the HPV vaccine, or families that are uncomfortable claiming the religious exemption because their objection is not in fact a religious one. If you are interested in being a plaintiff please email us at or contact Giovanni Cicione directly at
